WILDCATS TAKE THE WIN AT PLYMOUTH PLYMOUTH DEVILS 40 WEYMOUTH WILDCATS 50 By Tim Allan | Saturday 31st March 2012 The nomadic Weymouth Wildcats side took a 10 point victory at Plymouth Speedway Friday evening against a side put together by former Wildcat Matt Bates under the Plymouth Devils banner after it was originally intended to be an Exeter Falcons side.
Tim Allan acting as Wildcats team manager said, "We did really well with some great close racing tonight. Tim Webster went through the card and was simply superb. He had solid back up with David Mason 10+1 and super fast from the gate, James White-Williams 8+1 and Luke Chessell who was almost left without a club this year popped in a fine win in heat 14 after Jamie Dixon offered to stand down even though I really wanted him to gain from the experience."
Webster who rides for Buxton in this year's National League was unstoppable around the St Boniface Arena taking each of his 5 outing at ease. His Hitman teammate Dean Felton was involved in some top wheel to wheel action rolling back the years, while James White-Williams scored solid through the evening. David Mason always in the mix again rolling back the years while Luke Chessell used his fast starting to full effect to help secure the homeless Wildcats win.
For the Devils Kyle Hughes must be the unluckiest rider after recently signing for Leicester after it look like he would be sitting out the first part of the season took a fall in heat 10 resulting in withdrawing from the meeting with a hand injury. Luke Priest who ruled himself out of team plans until he was happy that surgery he underwent was a success turned out to be another rider rolling back the years with a fine 12 point tally.
With Pickard splitting Webster and Felton in the first heat the Wildcats started off in a dominant mood never to be headed. Chessell took the spoils in the reserves race in heat 2 while Priest kept Johnson and White-Williams at bay in heat 3. Wildcats skipper Mason made a perfect start to head Andrews and Brown before Webster and Felton extended the Wildcats lead to 4 with Priest slotted between them.
Two more shared heats followed with wins for Mason after a great tussle with Pickard, and White-Williams before Pickard bagged only the second heat win at the halfway stage heat 8 for the Devils in a great wheel to wheel race with Felton to narrow the gap to 2 points, 23-25 right on the line. Priest fighting hard for the Devils headed the previously unbeaten Mason while Pickard headed the pack to level the scores in the heat 10 re-run after Johnson slid off with Hughes taking avoiding action in the process injuring his hand.
Hitmen, Webster and Felton took the first 5-1 of the meeting for the Wildcats which was followed by Bates with his only race win before heat 13 maximum points from Webster and Mason put the Wildcats 8 up with two heats to go. Chessell came in to replace Dixon and sped from the taps for the win that secured victory for the Wildcats. Not to be outdone Webster completed a fine five ride maximum taking the final heat to give the Wildcats a 10 point win.
"The lads were brilliant, all the riders said they would love to ride again under the Weymouth Wildcats banner which just goes to show the affection they have for the club. Mike Bowden is going to check through his calendar to see when we can sort out another fixture this year, hopefully we will be able to announce something shortly," concluded Allan.

WILDCATS TAKE ON FALCONS AT PLYMOUTH By Tim Allan | Friday 23rd March 2012 The nomadic Weymouth Wildcats side have an early season chance back on track at Plymouth Speedway on Friday 30th March against an Exeter Falcons side put together by former Wildcat Matt Bates.
Tim Allan acting as Wildcats team manager said, "Again we have been lucky enough to be invited by Mike Bowden to pit the Falcons and Wildcats against each other. This time we have a full 7 man team 15 heat meeting to look forward to."
New race jackets made by Devon Shirt Designs will be used for the first time featuring a totally new design and fresh look, sponsored by Doonans Sand and Gravel by the Wildcats who are made up out of familiar names; Tim Webster, Dean Felton, James White Williams, Brendan Johnson, Luke Chessell and David Mason who will skipper the side, together with local Weymouth based youngster Jamie Dixon who is riding in the Midland Development league for MK Knights and has also been added to the Long Eaton Invaders squad.
Webster and Felton ride for Buxton in this year's National League, while White Williams has joined Dudley Heathens and Chessell has moved to Rye House Raiders along with former skipper Mason. Johnson faces a long trip to Norfolk riding for King's Lynn Young Stars.
"It's great to be able to make the entire team up of former Wildcats I included Jamie as he was mascot a few years back and lives locally. Again it will be good to see a Weymouth based rider turn out for the Wildcats, I have said to him just enjoy the meeting, no pressure and I'm not bothered if he gets four zeros, it's all about experience on his journey to try and make the grade."
"The rest of the team should be able to take the race to the Falcons who include another five former Wildcats so any Wildcats' supporters missing their methanol fix get down to Plymouth next Friday for what should be a cracking meeting. When you look at the two sides they are well matched, Matt and myself didn't let on to each other who we were asking to ride, we just got on with it."
"The lads were brilliant, I had four riders all agreed within half an hour of being asked to put the Weymouth side together, they were all brilliant, 'Yes I'll ride' were the replies instantly which just goes to show the affection they have for the club. I hope Wildcats supporters can turn out in force to show their appreciation to both sets of riders," concluded Allan.
